Diary Of A Personal Trainer 7 – Tough Mudder Training Week 2 and 3

Week 2

Wayford woods is a stunning woodland area. If you’ve never been then you might struggle to find it. It’s tucked away in the Somerset countryside in a little village called Wayford which is a few miles from Crewkerne. It’s a community trust which from the help and hard work of local volunteers has completely transformed a woodland area into The most beautiful wooded wildlife and floral show. For week 2 of our Tough Mudder training we completed the entire outer circuit of the woodland making lots of stops to perform functional exercises as well as using our team building skills. We climbed over and balanced on falling tree trunks, we did pull ups on strong solid branches and we raised our heart rates with a fast paced power walk, step ups, amongst lots of other functional exercises. It was absolutely wonderful to train in the forest. Loads of fresh air,a nice breeze to cool us down and a scenic view (there were spring flowers in bloom). It was the perfect temperature and the perfect outdoor workout!

Week 3

As an adult it’s a rare occasion that you go to a children’s park without a child! Session three of our tough Mudder training was that rare occasion and luckily the entire park in Merriot was empty so we didn’t receive any strange looks.

I can’t tell you how much fun we had playing. Yes playing, because that’s exactly what it felt like as we challenged our bodies in lots of different ways. We jumped, climbed, crawled and hung on to the equipment and then included laps of jogging plus a 15 minute hiit session to finish us off! Today’s session was much more intense with the inclusion of the jogging laps and high intensity interval training session. It felt good. We all worked really hard and left feeling invigorated. I’m really looking forward to the next few weeks of Tough Mudder Training. We’ll be visiting the ready2climb climbing wall in Yeovil as well as The Bear Trail in Cullumpton. Bring on more fun movement and exercise!
